Denmark Catharina Svensen
Winning answer
Final Question in Miss Earth 2001: "Technology makes
life very convenient but it is also being blamed for certain
environmental problems. How do you propose to find a balance between
technology and Earth preservation?"
Answer of Miss Earth 2001: "Well, of course technology
does make a lot of problems for us in the environment. But we can do
something to make it better. For example in Denmark, we do a lot of
farming and we use a lot of technology to make it easier for us. But
that also means that we use a lot of chemicals that spread and go down
to a ground water and makes the ground water worse. So what we can do
and what we are doing at the moment is to try to make a regulations on
what chemicals are allowed to be used and also thereby make controls of
it so we can use those chemicals less." - Catharina Svensson, represented Denmark.

Miss Earth
Svensson became the first Miss Earth, an annual international beauty pageant promoting environmental awareness, when she was crowned on 28 October 2001, which was televised live internationally from the University of the Philippines Theater in Quezon City, Philippines.
At the time of her crowning, the 19 year-old Svensson was a third year
law student and a part-time model. It was her first time to participate
in any beauty contest, she was appointed by the national pageant
director of Miss Earth Denmark.
It was Denmark's first title in any of the "Big Four International Pageants", and its first since winning the continental pageant, Miss Europe in 1981. Among the northern European countries, Sweden has the first Miss World, Finland has the first Miss Universe, and Denmark has the first Miss Earth. Denmark has four first runners-up, one each for Miss International and Miss Universe (Aino Korva in 1963) and two at Miss World (the first one was Lilian Madsen in 1957). Prior to Svensson's victory at Miss Earth, the best performance year of Denmark in any of the major international beauty pageants was in 1986 when Pian Rosenberg Larsen finished as first runner-up at Miss International and Pia Larsen also finished as first princess at Miss World.
In October 2005, she went back to the Philippines and served as one of the judges in the Miss Earth 2005, the fifth edition of the pageant, which won by Miss Venezuela, Alexandra Braun Waldeck.
On March 22, 2010, Svensson gave birth to her first child. She named her girl Angelina Brink
