Across
the board, the trend toward sustainability and reducing environmental
impact became the hot ticket for many industries because “going green” makes green. And the pageant circuit is no exception.
Carousel Productions organized the first Miss Earth beauty pageant in
2001 to promote the preservation of the environment, which is a
wonderful action to take. They even formed the Miss Earth Foundation in
2004 to support organizations that are involved in environmental causes.
But at what cost to women?
The rules for entrants are strict and send a very unhealthy message
to women of all ages. Qualifications for a National candidate are
directly from the Miss Earth entrance form.
“Carousel Productions, Inc. is searching for the most exceptional
women around the globe to participate in the 11th edition of the Miss
Earth Pageant in 2011. While the tradition of selecting the national
candidates is strictly followed, Carousel is braving a new meaning to beauty pageants by bringing to light the conscious effort of promoting clean and healthy environment."
Qualifications of a National Candidate:
- Never been married, single, never given birth
- 18-26 years of age
- Minimum height of 5 feet 4 inches (162.56 cm)
- Possesses beauty of face and proportionate body structure
- Excellent physical condition
Miss Earth is the third most popular international beauty
pageant, Miss Universe and Miss World are first and second respectively.
The Miss Earth beauty pageant has organizations in 120 countries and
although the parent company’s entrant’s form does not stipulate a
maximum weight, each country has its own criteria with some stipulating
that entrants cannot be any larger than a US size 4 or taller than 5
feet 10 inches.
